In 1884 the Captain had died and that put Henson's exploration to stop for now. After the death of Captain Hines, Henson fell into depressing mood because his life at sea ended and his father figure who taught him right from wrong and how to be a proper explorer died. So with the turn of events Henson eventually made his way back to D.C. to find a new job. Henson eventually found a job becoming a clerk at a hat shop in downtown D.C. in 1887. There at the hat shop Henson met Robert Edwin Peary, an explorer also. Peary was a very well known explorer and a U.S. Navy Corps.
